This was 1st game of season 1996

In the stands waiting

This was one amazing team, when I came onto the team in 1996, I was amazed at what the girls were doing.  I tried out in my 8th grade year, and made the team for my freshman year of high school.  The team was under the direction of Mrs. Natalie Brown.  She was a dancer for the Houston Oilers in her college days and was now teaching dance and English at Waltrip. I was at the time the only girl to audition from my school in the spring tryouts of 1996.  I joined the team in Fall 1996 and was introduced to fun and laughter with a group of girls I would call my friends for the next four years of high school.

As we came together as a team, Mrs. Brown would remind us that as a team we could do anything.  She was right, and we were a success that year.  We learned all sorts of dance styles, like ballet, jazz, modern, lyrical and various other styles.  But what we learned was team work and how to stay on top.  This was the year 5-Seniors, 7-Juniors, 10-Sophomore, and 15-Freshman to take the team to its big victory in competitions as well as on the football field.  We were always in the center of action at the football games.  We did half-time performances, and helped to raise school spirit in the stands.  With the help of our parents we were able to do a lot.  At the end of the year we would throw a Spring show, with a collection of dance we did through the year and new stuff we were going to be presenting.  Most of the time we had a theme and for our show that year it "Let the Beat Control Your Body", and we had a great time with the final performance of the year being "Cats".

AS the school year ended all the work we had done had gone to pay for new uniforms that we would be needing for the coming years.  All the shows and fundraising we did paid off in the long run, and we paved the way for future groups of young girls to experience what we had as a team.  We had friendship, honor, pride, and courage.  What more could we ask for, we were probably the most envied group in school.  I know for a fact certain cheerleaders could not stand us, but that was because they had left the team to be cheerleaders and found they were no longer the center of attention.  I wonder why?  We as a team were great and with Mrs. Brown as our director we could not have done so well without and for that I thank her.  She taught me a lot and I will always be grateful.  I would stay on the team for another year under the direction of Mrs. Winninger, and then I would leave the team.  Things were not the same when Mrs. Brown left so I did not stay on for all 4 years instead go on to study dance in college under new direction of Fort Worth Ballet Company Dancer A. Wein and Jazz Director A. Gwen.
